Challenge:

  • Client is a leading technology titan, dominating the global market with their software, services, and innovative solutions. The client has an extensive field team that manages the performance of associates through whom the business is run.
  • The client relied on an excel workbook to assign and communicate their internal targets with various field teams over the years. The field team had a single workbook to assign external targets to associates as part of fiscal year planning.
  • There were privacy concerns among the field about using a single excel template, as their individual performance and targets would be exposed to other field team members. Also, consolidation of the reports received back with various logics was tricky and error prone.
  • These challenges led to the requirement of a unique tool where inputs can be collected and necessary RLS can be implemented to comply with privacy.
  • The tool also needed to consider the various business logics to be followed while inputting the targets, so that errors and reworks were minimized.

TurnB Approach

Explored multiple platforms to build a user friendly, intuitive tool that collects user inputs while complying with business rules and at real time, stores the input data to an excel sheet which would then be used for other transformations.

After studying various platforms and their features, Power Apps was selected for developing the app as the tool had essential features such as secure login, RLS features and easy interface for user inputs along with being in the MSFT stack.

Designed an intuitive app interface for collecting target inputs from field teams; the UI was designed to display necessary information such as previous year’s performance for each associate which helped the field teams to assign necessary targets for associates.

Implemented row-level security to ensure the user’s privacy and eliminating any potential privacy concerns.

Access to data was controlled using login credentials, such that each user had access to their respective data only.

Implemented multiple data validation steps to ensure that business rules and logics were met.

Implications

Using the new app, field teams can now seamlessly assign the targets for associates they manage and eliminate potential errors during target inputs as there are proper validations in place.

• Through the implementation of RLS for the app, privacy concerns were eliminated as the targets were secured for each person.
